Plum Tree Info
Plum trees include a tree guard and mycorryzal inoculant. Fertilizer/mulch/compost, etc available for purchase if needed.
Plum Tree Sizing
Bareroot plum trees are a 9/16″ to 11/16″ caliper size and 7-8′ tall with branching. NOTE: The American Plum is a shrub form and is approximately 2′ at this time.
Plum Tree Rootstock
The plum trees are on a standard Prunus Americana or dwarfing St. Julian. Please see descriptions for mature height.
2023 Apple season runs from Sept. 1st through Oct. 29th. Our spring nurser season will be open again in 2024. Pre-ordering begins in January of 2024.

Ripens: Mid-Summer
Native to North America, this easy-to-grow shrub has many uses. It is a popular wildlife planting in or on the edge of forests, but it is also a heavy-yielding plant producing small plums excellent for jams, jellies, wines and fresh eating. It is sometime used in landscaping for creating a hedgerow. The American Plum is self-pollinating, but is an excellent pollinator for other plum trees.
These are available as 2′ bareroot plants.
Compass Cherry Plum (sold out for 2023)

Ripens: Late July/Early August
Clingstone. Red cherry plum excellent for jams, jellies, canning and sauces. Usually bears fruit a couple years after planting. Best pollinated with Sapalta Cherry Plum, Toka Plum or Nanking Cherry (available on Small Fruits Page).
Mount Royal (sold out for 2023)

Ripens: Late August
Freestone. Considered the best blue cultivar in WI and MN. Excellent fresh eating, preserves, jam. This variety is self fruitful and does not require a pollinator. However, this plum will not pollinate another variety.

Clingstone. Very attractive, large red plum with a golden blush. Sweet, juicy, yellow flesh with excellent quality. 1942 U of MN release. Fresh eating, jam and jelly. Very hardy. Lisa’s favorite plum tree!
Sapalta Cherry Plum

Ripens: Late July/Early August
Semi-clingstone. Purple cherry plum. Good crops of medium-sized fruit excellent for preserves, wine, etc. Can be eaten fresh, but does have some tartness. Best pollinated with Compass Cherry Plum, Toka Plum or Nanking Cherry (available on the Small Fruits page).

Clingstone. 1933 release from the U of MN. Large fruit with dark red skin. Sweet, juicy yellow flesh. Considered one of the best plums on the market. Pollinate with American Plum, Pipestone, Toka or Waneta.

Ripens: Mid-August
Clingstone. Also known as “Bubblegum”. This is a prolific producer of medium sized fruit that is richly flavored. Excellent fresh eating. This plum is a highly regarded pollinator for other varieties. Introduced in 1911 from the South Dakota Experiment Station. This variety is self-fruitful but will produce more fruit with an additional variety.
