About Our Pear Trees

Pear Tree Sizes: There is variability in the tree sizes, but they are generally a ¾” caliper minimum with light to moderate branching (feathering) unless noted. Height is usually at least 5′, but often over 7′.

Pollination

Pears do require an additional pear tree of a different variety for pollination. The pears available here will work for each other. See the special note for Luscious, however.

Very cold hardy. Yellow fruit lightly blushed with dull red. Best for canning and spicing, fair for fresh eating.

Luscsious is a 1973 introduction from South Dakota. This is an excellent dessert pear for the northern Great Plains. Small to medium sized bright yellow fruit. Beautiful red fall foliage.

Ripens: August

Large, yellow bronze fruit that is fine-grained, tender and juicy. Vigorous growth habit. A 1934 University of MN introduction that is also a popular pollinator.

Unusualy dark tan fruit. Tastes like a cross between and apple and pear. Crisp. This is the most cold hardy of Asian pears.
